In contemporary life, more and more middle schools, apart from conveying knowledge, are encouraging their students to become a volunteer in their community. I agree with this behavior, although it may have a side effect in study area.
These students will be always willing to help the needy people in future, after doing some volunteer work in society. It’s not only because they can have a chance to feel the sense of achievement in the process of volunteering, but also because they will surprisingly find that their little work should had such a great improvement to other people’s lives. Regular doing these volunteer work, such as taking care of the elderly, can be greatly helpful for them to form a warm heart. Whenever they see someone in need, it will become an instinct for them to giving a helping hand to others and our society will become better and warmer than before because of their behavior.
Another advantage is that they can sharpen their skill set during the process. They, except the ability of study, may know nothing about other abilities in their lives before, but with the help of volunteering, they may command many more skills, like cooking the meals, washing the dishes and so on. If they successfully imply them into their daily life, their parents will be relieved and a more beautiful future will be promised. Otherwise, these students may be dependent on their parent when they become adults.
On the other hand, providing schools frequently hold this kind of volunteer work, it can be seen as a great waste of time to their students. Because the primary task for them to do at school is learning knowledge and getting a good mark in the examination. If they spend too much time which should have been used in study on volunteer, they will not perform well in the subjects. The consequence is that, they may not be allowed to such a thing again and not go back to their peek performance in their study. This may make these students lose the chance to break the cycle of poverty.
To be concluded, while having some terrible influences, moderate volunteer work is necessary to middle school students.
